As I prepared to write my first post, I struggled to come up with an interesting topic. Then it hit me – communication.
Communication is key to any successful development project. Being able to clearly explain to the team what you mean is only half of the equation. Good communication is also about listening. Without it there is little chance of a successful delivery.
It takes two to have a constructive dialogue. If the other party does not actively engage, then your listening skills coupled with a few key communication strategies such as acknowledging the other person, offering your own interpretations and asking questions, can make for successful communication.
The goal should be mutual understanding and finding a solution that pleases both parties, not winning the argument or being right.
