The ball that dropped in Times Square on New Year’s had a special message that you might have missed: The age of the LED light is upon us.

This year the ball had 32,256 LED lights on it. Just a few weeks ago the Empire State Building unveiled an array of LED lights to illuminate it’s crown. Miami Tower is now a nightly light show powered entirely by colorful LED lights.

What’s happening?

LED lights are far more energy efficient than the alternatives and, because they last longer, maintenance costs are also lower. LEDs are quickly becoming the obvious lighting choice.

The lighting industry is moving full-force into the world of LEDs. It’s only a matter of time before they start showing up everywhere, not just special applications like in Times Square.

The ball signifies more than a new year. It’s a whole new world that is going to be lit with LEDs.
