In the second quarter of 2013, Massachusetts saw 84 VC investment deals totaling $773 million. This is up 22.5% from the previous quarter. The growth has largely been fueled by the high tech and biotech sectors.
A recent study by DeSantis Breindel found that 57% of VC firms, and 46% of CEOs, favor VC firm locations in close proximity to their portfolio companies.
Recent relocations by VC firms over the past few years support this finding. Battery Ventures, Atlas Venture, and Charles River Ventures all relocated from Waltham to the Seaport District, Lechmere Square and Kendall Square respectively.
