Today marks the groundbreaking of two hotels with a combined 510 rooms on D Street in South Boston’s waterfront for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA). It is a natural extension of the success of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
Officials from the MCCA, CV Properties, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide joined Mayor Menino and Mayor-elect Marty Walsh for their first ground breaking together since the election. With only 25 days left in office, Mayor Menino described how proud he is of this city and the people advocating for its development.
“The city needs these moderately priced hotels,” said Menino. “I know that my predecessor will continue this growth. It’s all about getting the job done with input from the community.”
JLL’s Eamon O’Marah, who is serving as Development Advisor to CV Properties, noted: “Today is the culmination of over a year of non-stop work. Now we look forward to executing construction and the completion of this important project.”
The hotels are expected to create hundreds of jobs to the busy waterfront, Innovation District, and downtown Boston.
