Whether it be basketball or business, perseverance is a key ingredient to success. JLL Brokerage’s Roger Breslin looked back on his days as point guard at Holy Cross to explain.
“I had many nights my freshman year where I left practice wondering if I could play at this level,” he said. He played sparingly that year, and hit another rough patch as a sophomore.
Then something clicked. He realized that playing without the worry of being taken out of the game was the best mind set. The rest is history. Roger led the Crusaders to an spot in the NCAA Tournament’s Big Dance, set a school record for free throw percentage, led the team in assists, and was the floor general.
“I was a guy with pretty average athletic skills,” Breslin said. “I had to work extremely hard to put myself in a position to be successful at the Division I level.
“Just like sports, our business is based on production. There are many parallels: commitment, organizational skills, and being a good teammate among them. You’re always going to go through stretches where things aren’t going your way. You just have to persevere.”
