The Boston Business Journal honored audio manufacturer Sonos Inc.’s expansion from Kendall Square into 170,000 sf at Lafayette City Center with a Best in Boston Real Estate award (slide show) at its annual program. The deal led the charge in establishing the BID as a destination for tech companies. JLL, building owner The Abbey Group, and Colliers International were recognized for the transaction.
“We took advantage of the complete transformation here, and the perception of downtown,” said Abbey Group President David Epstein.
“This validated the redevelopment of Downtown Crossing as a high energy, dynamic work-play environment,” Bill Barrack of JLL said.
Sonos’ move to floors 3 and 4 of LCC is scheduled for this August.
Oxford Properties Group’s $2.1 billion acquisition of a six-building Boston area portfolio was also recognized in the Office category. JLL is the leasing agent representing Oxford at 60 State.
John Drew was the recipient of this year’s real estate Visionary Award. In a fireside chat with BBJ Managing Editor Craig Douglas, John described Boston’s current real estate boom as “the most exciting time in my 35-year career.”
