This summer, a dozen students from universities in Boston and across the country have joined JLL New England as summer interns. The internship program, which began in 2009 and has evolved from there, is aimed to give students a window into commercial real estate which they may otherwise not be able to get. The interns are spread out across the organization in various departments including Brokerage, Capital Markets, Marketing, Research, and Property Management.
We asked one of those interns, Roxanna Zahedi, a senior at Boston University, to share more about her experiences at JLL. Here’s what she had to say in her own words:
I can easily say that the JLL summer internship program has been among the most enjoyable, fulfilling, and valuable professional experiences I have had. Getting to work at such a multi-faceted company like JLL has given me a new understanding and appreciation for how all the different services in real estate operate and collaborate together.
I am an intern specifically for the Marketing team here at JLL New England. The team touches many different areas of the organization, from servicing clients to managing the company’s brand. I have been given two long term projects to work on which focus on helping to enhance the group’s digital marketing strategy. I have also gotten the opportunity to become involved in the other services that JLL offers. After expressing my interest in brokerage, I was invited to attend weekly meetings and participate in case studies with the brokerage interns. I have also had the opportunity to learn more about JLL’s services through our weekly “JLL @ a glance” program, where members from each department come and speak with us about their specific roles and answer any questions we may have.
For me, the company culture has definitely been the biggest takeaway from this entire experience. From the very first day, I was welcomed in as part of the team and this is a feeling I know my fellow interns have consistently expressed as well. Knowing that I can reach out to anyone in the company, no matter what level, and ask to meet with them to learn more about what they do is absolutely invaluable. I have had opportunities to sit down and talk to some of the most prominent figures in the real estate industry and everyone is so genuinely eager to share their knowledge and passion about their work. They have truly given me advice and experiences that I will carry with me throughout this internship and beyond. I cannot believe that we only have four short weeks left, but I know they will be filled with even more worthwhile lessons and experiences.
