A rewarding experience for one local student

Every summer, we’re excited to welcome a new group of interns to JLL who get to not only help us out, but learn more about the commercial real estate industry across many of our different business lines. This year was no exception. While the experiences vary from person to person, we asked Adam Goldberg, a senior at Connecticut College doubling majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience and Economics to share a little bit more about his time here as his internship winds to a close:

I can honestly say my time at JLL these last several months has enhanced and diversified my professional experience. Coming from a science background, I entered this role without any previous business experience. I was excited to learn more about the commercial real estate industry and business in general after speaking with Bill Barrack, a fellow Connecticut College alum.

I have spent my time at JLL interning in the Brokerage department for the Integrated Portfolio Service team. In my role, I review leases, use PowerPoint to create materials for clients, and try to think of creative ways to source prospects. This role has allowed me to access the large JLL network and tap into so many seasoned professionals within the industry. Everyone at JLL has been incredibly friendly and approachable – many have even taken me out to lunch and coffee to chat.

In addition to my daily responsibilities, I’ve also appreciated the structured case studies I’ve worked on, which have allowed me to gain real experience and receive feedback on mock pitches. For example, the brokerage interns – there’s five of us – were asked to do a mock pitch for a client whose business JLL had previously won. We were broken up into teams and collaborated to come up with a presentation that we eventually showcased to Ben Heller, the Managing Director for the Downtown team.

Above all, I believe that this program has developed me into a stronger professional. The case studies have challenged me to practice public speaking, critical thinking, and collaboration. The size of the company has allowed me to expand my network and to gain new mentors as I continue to develop as a professional. I am thankful that I was able to spend a rewarding summer here in JLL’s Boston office doing meaningful work.
